About Kim Fleming
Kim Merlin grew up fascinated by her grandmother’s gardens, helping to plant window boxes and running amok in the peony beds. After 15 years in the fashion business, she parlayed her love of flowers and childhood passion into a tiny flower shop Ex Floreus in Lake Forest, IL. Her business soon grew to include weddings, event production, garden design and flower workshops all over the world. In 2004, the film production of Ocean’s Twelve tapped her store as a location. In addition to doing all the florals for the film, Kim began working with the set decoration team, which lead to her Hollywood. She has created sets, design flowers and helped decorate over 20 films including Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, Bridesmaids, Gone Girl, Jack Reacher and Alice and Wonderland, while still maintaining Ex Floreus.
In 2009 she was asked by the Obama administration to become Interim Chief White House Floral designer, designing flowers for every White House event such as The Medal of Freedom reception, the swearing in of Supreme Court Justice Sotomayer, the Kennedy Center Honor reception, Halloween, as well as designing the first Obama Christmas along with Simon Doonan.
In 2011 Kim founded KKM Design Group specializing in global event planning, garden consulting and interior design work. She and her husband Fergus Fleming split their time between Chicago and their organic farm in England where they grow organic and sustainable flowers and trees.
